An attorney called the National Human Trafficking Hotline in search of specialized mental health resources for survivors of human trafficking. Her client, Vanessa, was forced into commercial sex when she was a minor. Vanessa’s case was under investigation, and her attorney noticed the toll it was taking on her. Vanessa reported experiencing severe trauma and her condition was exacerbated as a result of her involvement with the investigation. Vanessa’s lawyer felt her client was re-traumatized and believed she urgently needed intensive psychiatric care . The National Hotline connected the caller to a local anti-trafficking provider to help Vanessa access specialized mental health services for survivors of trauma.
