National Human Trafficking Training and Technical Assistance Center 
NHTTAC is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Office on Trafficking in Persons. NHTTAC delivers training and technical assistance (T/TA) to inform and enhance the public health response to human trafficking. 

Runaway and Homeless Youth Training and Technical Assistance Center 
RHYTTAC is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) as the training and technical assistance provider for all runaway and homeless youth (RHY) grantees. 

Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center 
OVC TTAC is a component of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs. OVC TTAC serves as the gateway to current training and technical assistance for victim service providers and allied professionals who serve crime victims.

The following information is based on incoming signals made to the NHTRC from January 1, 2015 – December 31, 2015 about human trafficking cases and issues related to human trafficking in Alabama. Signals refer to incoming communications with the NHTRC and can take the form of phone calls, online tip reports, or emails. Signals regarding topics unrelated to human trafficking are not included in this report. In 2015, the NHTRC received a total of 24,757 signals nationwide.

Sex Trafficking Story | Child Sex Trafficking

Laura, a school counselor, called the National Human Trafficking Hotline because she was concerned that one of her middle school students, Alyssa, was engaging in commercial sex. Alyssa was a frequent runaway and was recently found at a home with several adults where commercial sex was believed to be taking place. Laura told the National Hotline that Alyssa’s foster family had noticed that she had recently received some expensive gifts, and some of Alyssa’s peers had reported that she was having sex in exchange for money.

Labor Trafficking Story | Agriculture

Sergio contacted the National Human Trafficking Hotline for assistance in better understanding his rights. Sergio informed the National Hotline that he often worked extremely long days on a farm with no days off and no breaks. Sergio regularly received less than he had been promised for the hours he worked. Additionally, although Sergio was living in housing provided by his employer, he did not have access to a bathroom or clean running water. When Sergio spoke with his supervisors about the working conditions, they threatened to blacklist him from future employment.

Sex Trafficking Story | Child Sex Trafficking

An attorney called the National Human Trafficking Hotline in search of specialized mental health resources for survivors of human trafficking. Her client, Vanessa, was forced into commercial sex when she was a minor. Vanessa’s case was under investigation,and her attorney noticed the toll it was taking on her. Vanessa reported experiencing severe trauma and her condition was exacerbated as a result of her involvement with the investigation. Vanessa’s lawyer felt her client was re-traumatized and believed she urgently needed intensive psychiatric care .

Labor Trafficking Story | Domestic Work

Analyn had come to the United States to work as a domestic worker and her employers had promised that she would work 6 days a week, receive one day off every week, and she would earn a fair wage for her work. Instead, she was expected to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and was paid irregularly. Furthermore, Analyn's employers threatened her with deportation often and she believed that if she left, they would report her to immigration authorities. Analyn wanted help leaving and was not ready to speak with law enforcement.

Surviving the Streets of New York: Experiences of LGBTQ Youth, YMSM, and YWSW Engaged in Survival Sex
