National Human Trafficking Training and Technical Assistance Center 
NHTTAC is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Office on Trafficking in Persons. NHTTAC delivers training and technical assistance (T/TA) to inform and enhance the public health response to human trafficking. 

Runaway and Homeless Youth Training and Technical Assistance Center 
RHYTTAC is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) as the training and technical assistance provider for all runaway and homeless youth (RHY) grantees. 

Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center 
OVC TTAC is a component of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs. OVC TTAC serves as the gateway to current training and technical assistance for victim service providers and allied professionals who serve crime victims.

Substantive calls exclude hang-ups, wrong numbers, declined calls, missed calls, and calls in which the NHTRC could not determine the caller’s reason for calling. Illicit massage businesses are enterprises that purport to offer massage services but instead offer commercial sex. The following information is based on those calls.

During the five-year period between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2015, a total of 233 substantive calls were made to the NHTRC hotline concerning the human trafficking of J-1 visas-holders. Substantive calls exclude hang-ups, wrong numbers, declined calls, missed calls, and calls in which the NHTRC could not determine the caller’s reason for calling. J-1 visas are temporary visas for individuals to participate in work-and study-based exchange visitor programs.

Ten Years of Sex Trafficking Cases in the United States

In 2015, the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC) responded to over 5,500 cases of human trafficking. Of those cases, 75 percent involved sex trafficking. Federal laws on human trafficking are outlined by the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) of 2000. The TVPA allows legal protections to be offered to any victim of severe forms of human trafficking, but not all cases of sex trafficking are prosecuted using human trafficking statutes.
