National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC)
During the five-year period between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2015, a total of 233 substantive calls were made to the NHTRC hotline concerning the human trafficking of J-1 visas-holders. Workers on J-1 visas are temporarily authorized to work in the United States in a variety of professions including as camp counselors, au pairs, interns, researchers, students, and can also serve as government visitors and summer work travel participants.
