Human Trafficking and Illicit Massage Businesses Report

During the five-year period between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2015, a total of 2,137 substantive calls were made to the NHTRC hotline concerning human trafficking at illicit massage businesses. Substantive calls exclude hang-ups, wrong numbers, declined calls, missed calls, and calls in which the NHTRC could not determine the caller’s reason for calling. Illicit massage businesses are enterprises that purport to offer massage services but instead offer commercial sex. The following information is based on those calls.
